Sovereign: a cream and blue business card template.

Sovereign is a cream and blue business card template for Apple Wallet: pale laid-paper stock with an engraved rosette in bright blue and your name in dark navy serif type. Like Intaglio, the engraving is computed from your name. It is the lightest of the three engraved designs, and it is on Pro.

The design

What it is made of.

Cream, from #fdfaf3 to #efe7d5, with faint wavy lines across it like laid paper. The rosette on the right is engraved in Cardr's own blue, #025FFD, which makes Sovereign the one design that uses the brand color as ink rather than as a highlight. The name is set in Iowan Old Style in a navy close to black (rgb 18, 26, 44), with a short blue rule under it and a pale serial in the corner.

Who it suits

Who should wear Sovereign.

People who want the formality of the engraved designs without a dark card: architects, academics, private bankers, anyone whose printed card was ivory stock. It is also the easiest of the engraved three to photograph for a website or a slide. If cream feels too soft, Engine Turn is the same idea in cool gray.

Example · Sovereign in Wallet
In poor light

How it reads in a dim room.

Navy on cream is a strong pairing for type, far past the 7:1 bar, so the rows read easily. The trade-off is brightness: a light card lights up the whole screen in a dark room, and the QR plate has less dark around it to stand out from. It still scans, but if most of your meetings are in dim venues a dark design suits better.

Measured from the pass's own colors, by the WCAG contrast formula. 21:1 is black on white; the line marks 7:1, the bar for small text. This is a light card.

Where the details sit

Top to bottom, on the pass.

  1. Name, in the art
  2. Role and company
  3. QR, opens your page
  4. Links, on the back
Example · Sovereign, labeled
  1. Your name, in the artworkDrawn into the band across the top of the pass. A long name shrinks, then wraps, rather than being cut off.
  2. Your role and companyOne row under the band, in Apple's system font.
  3. Your phone numberTappable on your own phone.
  4. The QR codeOn the white plate Wallet draws at the bottom. It opens your page at cardr.co/yourname.
  5. The back of the passYour page link and every link you added.

The rosette fills the right of the band at full strength. A photo, if you add one, is laid over that same space, so most people wear Sovereign without one and let the engraving be the picture.

Questions

Sovereign, answered.

What is the difference between Sovereign and Intaglio?

The same engraving method on opposite grounds. Intaglio is light lines on near-black ink, Sovereign is brand-blue lines on cream paper. Both are drawn from your name.

Can I change the blue on Sovereign?

No. The engraving color is part of the design. If you want your own color, Brand Color fills the card with one color you choose and Custom Gradient builds it from two.

Will Sovereign print well on a metal card?

Sovereign is a design for the Wallet pass. Cardr Metal cards (UK only for now) have their own engraved finishes, chosen when you order one.

How do I get Sovereign on my card?

Make your card free (it starts in Oxford), then start Pro and pick Sovereign in your card's editor. Pro is $15 a month or $12 a month billed annually, with 7 days free. Your pass redraws itself in Wallet.
