For solicitors

They decide in three weeks. Be findable then.

A first meeting ends with somebody who needs to go away and think, and who will not think about it for a fortnight. Cardr puts your details somewhere that does not get tidied into a drawer, takes theirs back in the same action, and makes the one appropriate follow-up easy enough that it happens.

In law the constraint is that you cannot chase. A client instructs when their circumstances force it, which is rarely the week you met, and the professional register of the work rules out the pushy follow-up that other trades rely on. So the whole job falls on being effortlessly findable a month later, and on the second-largest source of work, which is other professionals. Cardr keeps your details on their phone rather than in a drawer, captures theirs back for the referral side, and drafts the single polite message that most files never get.

The real scene

The gap between the meeting and the instruction.

Nothing happens for a fortnight. That gap is the entire risk, and no amount of good work in the meeting shortens it.

Where it happens

The first consultation

Nothing happens for a fortnight. That gap is the entire risk, and no amount of good work in the meeting shortens it.

  • Three weeks The gap between the consultation and the instruction. Nothing you do in the meeting shortens it.
  • No chasing The register of the work rules out the follow-up that other trades run on. One message, well judged, is the whole allowance.
  • Sideways referrals Half the work arrives from accountants, brokers and other firms, where the exchange has to run both ways.

Every constraint above is what decides the format. A card that fails any one of the three does not get used a second time, however good it looks.

A private client meeting ends with real intent and no action. They are going to talk to their partner, wait for the survey, see what the other side does. The decision lands somewhere between two weeks and two months later, and it lands wherever your details happen to be at that moment.

A printed card competes with a folder of paperwork and loses. An email signature is buried under everything that arrived since. A pass in Apple Wallet is on the phone they are holding when the thing finally happens, and it opens without signal in a car park or a lift.

The other half of the work arrives sideways, from accountants, brokers, agents and other firms. Those are the handovers where a two-way exchange matters most: you want their details as much as they want yours, and a card that only travels outward gives you nothing to build a referral relationship on.

The card itself

What it looks like on the phone.

Not a mock-up. The artwork below is drawn by the same function that draws the inside of the signed .pkpass file, in the same colours the real pass carries, so this is what Wallet shows.

What you get

Appropriate to the work, which is the hard part.

  • One follow-up, well written. The draft is built from what the matter actually was, so the message reads as a professional courtesy rather than a sales chase. You are editing a paragraph, not composing one.
  • A reminder, not a sequence. A single nudge before a warm enquiry goes cold. There is no drip campaign in this product and there is not going to be one.
  • Notes against the name. “Probate, two siblings, property in Spain” sits on the contact rather than in a notebook, so the follow-up is specific and the file starts warm.
  • The referral side captured. When an accountant or a broker hands you a client, the same exchange puts them in your list too. That relationship is worth more than the single matter and is usually the one nobody records.
  • Your details, correctable. Change firm, floor, direct dial or title once, and every copy already saved updates itself. Nobody gets a wrong number two years later.
  • Nothing to install, on either side. Apple Wallet is already on their iPhone. You are not asking a client to download software in order to keep your phone number.
Questions

Solicitors, answered.

Is this appropriate for a regulated practice?

What goes on the card is entirely your decision, and the same rules apply to it as to any other business card or email signature your firm issues. Cardr does not add disclaimers, regulatory text or firm details for you, and it does not remove them. If your SRA number and firm address belong on your card, put them on it; there is room, and unlike print they can be corrected later.

Does it push messages at people automatically?

No. Nothing sends on its own. Cardr drafts a follow-up and reminds you it is unsent, and you decide whether it goes. There are no sequences, no cadences and no automated chasing, which is deliberate: the automated version of this is exactly wrong for professional work.

Can I use it for referrers rather than clients?

That is where most solicitors will get the value. The exchange is two-way, so an accountant, broker or agent you meet ends up in your list with the context attached, rather than as a card you meant to file. Notes and tags on Pro let you keep track of who actually sends work and who said they would.

Where does the client data sit?

On our servers in the course of running the product, and it is exportable to CSV or vCard on Pro so it is never trapped here. It is not a case management system and should not be treated as one: nothing privileged or matter-specific belongs in a contact note. Our privacy page sets out what is stored and for how long.

What does it cost?

The card, the Apple Wallet pass and the two-way exchange are free forever, with no card details taken. Pro is £12 a month, or £9 a month billed annually, and adds the contact memory, the drafted follow-ups and the reminders. Sixty-day money back guarantee.
