A vCard: a plain text file holding one or more contacts, in a format every phone and mail app understands. The name, numbers, emails, addresses and photo are written as lines like TEL;TYPE=CELL:+1 415 555 0134. It is what you get when someone shares a contact with you.

No. The viewer reads the file inside this browser tab; there is no upload endpoint for it to go to, and nothing is stored or logged. Load the page, turn off your internet connection, and it still works.

Drop it into this viewer. You see every contact in it, with its photo, before deciding whether to import it, and you can export the lot to a CSV for a spreadsheet instead.

Tap it in Mail, Messages or Files, then Create New Contact. For a file with several contacts, iPhone offers Add All Contacts. To look first without importing, open this page in Safari and choose the file.

Tap it in Gmail or your Files app and choose Contacts, or in Google Contacts use Fix & manage, then Import from file. The exact menu names vary by phone maker.

Usually the file has no FN line, the formatted name, which vCard 3.0 and 4.0 require. The viewer flags it. Older 2.1 files sometimes carry the name only in a QUOTED-PRINTABLE N line, which some apps fail to decode; the viewer decodes it.

No. A Variant Call Format file, also .vcf, holds DNA variants from gene sequencing and is read by bioinformatics tools. This viewer reads contact files (vCards). If yours starts with ##fileformat=VCFv4, it is the genomics kind, and the viewer will say it found no contacts.

Yes. When a file holds more than ten contacts, a search box appears above them: type part of a name, company, email or number and the list narrows as you type. Export CSV still includes every contact.

The viewer reads as much as it can. A card missing its END:VCARD line is still read, and says so; a line with no colon is skipped and named; a card that starts before the last one ended is split off. What it cannot do is invent data that is not in the file.

It is text, not a program, so opening it cannot run anything. The risk is in what it says: a contact can carry any name and any link. The viewer shows you exactly what is inside before you import it, and never fetches a photo or link from the web.
