A vCard QR code has the details baked into the pattern. That is its strength: it works with no signal and no server, forever. It is also its limit. The day you change number, employer or company name, every printed copy is wrong and stays wrong, exactly like a paper card. If you would rather the code stayed the same while the details behind it could be corrected, that is what Cardr does, and the card is free.

What is a vCard QR code?

A vCard QR code is a QR code containing a complete contact record rather than a link. When someone scans it, their phone offers to save the contact straight away, with no page to load and no internet connection needed. The format is vCard 3.0, which every modern iPhone and Android camera understands natively.

Is it really free, and do you keep my details?

It is free, there is no signup, and no email is asked for. The details you type are used to build the QR code and are not stored in a database. The values do appear in the page URL so that you can bookmark or share a generated code, so treat that link the way you would treat the contact details themselves.

Does the QR code expire?

No. The contact details are encoded inside the image itself rather than pointing at a server, so the code keeps working forever, offline, even if this site disappears. That is also its main weakness: because nothing is hosted, you cannot change the details later without printing a new code.

What if my phone number changes?

Every printed copy of a vCard QR code becomes wrong, permanently, exactly like a paper business card. If that is a problem, use a card that points at an address you control instead. That is the difference a Cardr makes: the QR code stays the same and the details behind it can be edited, so every scan opens the current version.

Can I use this commercially?

Yes. Print it on a card, a van, a shop window, a menu, a name badge or a business card. No attribution required and no licence to read. If it saves you something, a link back is welcome but not expected.

Why does the code look different when I add more fields?

A QR code grows denser as it carries more data. A name and a phone number produce a sparse, forgiving code; a name, company, title, phone, email and website produce a dense one that needs a better camera or a larger print. If you are printing small, encode less.
