Add a signature in Apple Mail.

Mail on a Mac keeps a signature per account. Make it here, then paste it in with one checkbox turned off first.

In Mail on a Mac: Mail, Settings, Signatures. Select the account on the left, click the add button, untick “Always match my default message font”, and paste into the right-hand column. Then pick it from Choose Signature.

Everything is optional except your name. Leave a field blank and the row disappears.

Preview

Put your name in and the signature appears here.

Nothing is stored. No images and no web fonts unless you choose them, so it renders the same in every mail client.

Step by step

Into Apple Mail, in 6 steps.

Labels are quoted from Apple’s own help pages, checked 2026-09-22.

  1. 01

Make it and press Copy signature

Fill in the generator on this page, choose a layout and a colour, and press Copy signature. That puts the rendered signature on your clipboard, not the HTML source.

  2. 02

    Open Signatures

In Mail, choose Mail > Settings, then click Signatures. On older versions of macOS the menu item is called Preferences.

  3. 03

    Pick the account first

In the left column, select the email account the signature is for. Creating it with the wrong account selected is the usual reason it never shows up.

  4. 04

    Add a signature

Click the add button (+) below the middle column and type a name for the signature.

  5. 05

Untick the font option, then paste

Untick Always match my default message font below the preview, or Mail restyles what you paste. Then click in the right column, select the placeholder text, and paste.

  6. 06

    Choose it for the account

Use the Choose Signature menu at the bottom to make it the default for that account. Close the window; Mail saves as you go.

Signatures set up in Mail on a Mac do not appear on an iPhone. The phone has its own, set in Settings: see the iPhone guide.
